Infernal Hulk’s Path to Hulk War Begins With a Savage Showdown Against Wolverine
Following the acclaimed Infernal Hulk run by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein, Marvel is launching a new series of Infernal Hulk Vs. one-shots, beginning with Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1 this September.
The special issues will bridge the gap between Infernal Hulk and the publisher’s blockbuster Hulk War crossover, set for early 2027.
The current Infernal Hulk storyline sees the ancient evil known as the Eldest taking control of Hulk’s body, transforming the Jade Giant into one of the Marvel Universe’s most terrifying threats. After Infernal Hulk (2025) #10 arrives in August, the story expands into a slate of standalone battles that pit the Infernal Hulk against some of Marvel’s biggest heroes while he builds an army of corrupted champions.
Written by Johnson, the one-shots kick off with Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1, featuring artwork by Stormbreaker artist Jonas Scharf (Ultimate Endgame). The series will continue through the end of the year with Infernal Hulk Vs. Fantastic Four #1, Infernal Hulk Vs. Spider-Man #1 and Infernal Hulk Vs. The Avengers #1. Each chapter promises a devastating victory for Infernal Hulk as he moves closer to reshaping the Marvel Universe in his own monstrous image.
The March to Hulk War Starts With Wolverine
The first battle centers on Wolverine after the X-Men discover the location of mutants who have been abducted and corrupted by Infernal Hulk. Determined to free them by any means necessary, Wolverine sets out on a collision course with what Marvel describes as the “Father of Horrors.”
“MARCH TO HULK WAR kicks off the final act of our story that Nic Klein and I started with Incredible Hulk #1 in 2023,” Johnson explained. “It's a series of one-shot battles between Infernal Hulk and Earth’s mightiest heroes, as Hulk gathers his terrifying Infernal Avengers for HULK WAR. The one-shots features one of the most epic rivalries in comics, Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine, and an ending that I'm expecting to shock some people.”
Johnson also teased the extreme tone of the upcoming specials.
“The most fun aspect of this series were rereading old Marvel battles, reminding myself what’s been done and how hard we’ve been willing to go in the past,” he continued. “Be advised: there were discussions about how violent we could go with these one-shots. I want to keep ramping up the horror vibe of the Hulk series, and for our readers to see things in these one-shots they’ve never seen before. On both counts, I promise we’ll deliver.”
Editor Mark Paniccia echoed that enthusiasm, promising fans an intense and brutal reading experience.
“An absolute knockout of a fight comic with unrelenting action, real emotional stakes, and Phillip firing off twist after twist without ever letting the reader catch their breath,” Paniccia said. “And Jonas' art makes you literally feel each punch, kick, cut, slash and stab. Just a savage issue!”
Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1 arrives in September, launching what Marvel is positioning as the final stretch toward Hulk War and the climactic conclusion of the ongoing Infernal Saga.
